Cool aluminum pot 5-string resonator banjo recently set up by Jake at Banjo Ben's.

[*This appears to be the "featured" Allegretto banjo on Paul Hawthorne's website. Because of the headstock, I'm thinking it was likely sold under the brand name Crown. See link below for more info.]

It plays and projects very well with an "old-timey" sound suitable for clawhammer, 2-finger, and/or Scruggs-style playing. Action is plenty low for bluegrass up the neck, but it frails well, too. It's really a great all-around banjo. The string spacing was pretty narrow, so I had Jake lightly sand and re-slot the bridge to "standard" spacing. He also made me a new bone nut slotted a bit wider than the plastic which was (and is now) on it. You can easily experiment to see which one you prefer – or cheaply have a new one made, maybe somewhere in between the two sizes I'm including.

But wait, there's more! Jake swapped out the original (metal friction) 5th-string tuning peg (included) with a modern geared one, so tuning is now a breeze. Plus, I'm throwing in a nearly-new Paige capo (the newer design) with an extra replacement rubber AND a Strum Hollow 5th-string capo, so you can play in any key they call at your next jam! [Hardshell "Conqueror" case, which is in surprisingly good shape after 50 years or so, also included in the deal.]

Seriously, this is a really cool '70s instrument with legit mojo. I was instantly attracted to it, and I think you'll love it! The guys at Banjo Ben's took turns with it and agreed that it's definitely a neat instrument with a unique vintage sound. [If I could play as well as them, I'd proudly record a sound sample, but...]

Honestly, I've just had some stuff come up and need to go ahead and let it go, hopefully within the next week or two. Grab this thing while you can and let this "Crown" jewel come reign at your house!
